47. The Lord liveth. David here comes to the concluding section of his song ( 47-51). On the ground of the victories that the Lord has given him he ascribes praise and thanksgiving to God. The Lord had not forgotten him or forsaken himâHe was ever present, the living God (Ps. 42:2; Isa. 37:4, 17; Jer. 10:10; Hosea 1:10; 1 Tim. 6:17), the one “who only hath immortality” (1 Tim. 6:16). God was more than a theory or a mere abstraction to Davidâhe had learned to know Him as a personal Friend and Saviour, and he now expresses his grateful praise to Him for His wonderful deliverance and care.
The rock of my salvation. See Ps. 89:26. David again recalls What God means to him; He is both his rock and his salvation, the God who is his strength and defense and who brings salvation to him.
